Our Story

In the Spring of 2005 I emigrated to the United States and started a new chapter of my life. As a Canadian Expat I soon found that some of my favorite Canadian foods were almost impossible to find here in the United States. This quickly caught my attention. Imagine! You can enjoy almost any other culture's cuisine (Wanna order Chinese? Go out for Mexican? Dine Ethiopian?) Somehow our Neighbors to the North have kept their national cuisine hidden from the rest of the world.

As time passed I introduced co-workers, friends and family to a few of my favorite recipes and it became increasingly obvious that the desserts of my youth should be made available across the US.

What is a Butter Tart you may ask? Butter tarts are unique to Canada and consist of sweet pastry shells that are filled with a mixture of butter, brown sugar and eggs. Some say they descend from the American pecan pie or even the British treacle tart, although history neither confirms nor denies these claims. There are many opinions as to what makes the perfect butter tart. What is the best pastry crust? Should the filling be firm or runny and should it contain raisins or nuts?
